Daniel Gros



Daniel Gros is Director of Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) since 2000, Vice President of Eurizon Capital (Asset Management) since 2005 and Member of the Supervisory Board of Central Bank of Iceland, since October 2009. He holds a Ph.D. from University of Chicago
He worked at the International Monetary Fund, (1983/1986 and April-August 1988) as Economist in the European and the Research Department and visiting Scholar in 1998. He worked at the European Commission (1988/1990) as Economic Adviser for Monetary Affairs at DG ECFIN (working mainly for the President and the Delors Committee which developed plans for EMU).
He though at: Université Catholique de Louvain (1986/87), Katholieke Universiteit te Leuven (1987/1993) and University of Frankfurt (Department of Economics, 1993/1994 and November-December 1997). He worked for the European Union as Advisor to European Parliament 1998 – 2005 and the position has been renewed for the period 2009-2013. He was membre du Conseil d’Analyse Economique (2001-2003) et du Conseil Economique de la Nation (2003-2005) (Advisory bodies to French Prime Minister and Finance Minister).
He was advisor to the Belgian government (Member of the High Level Committee) on a new global financial architecture under the chairmanship of Alexandre Lamfalussy, and has provided one to one advice to the governments of Russia, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Baltic States and numerous central banks in Central and Eastern Europe.
Other activities: He was founding member (2002) of the Shadow ECB Council organised by Handelsblatt (monthly telephone conferences with leading economists from Europe to discuss monetary policy for the euro area with concrete interest rate recommendations). He is currently member of the Euro 50 Group. He is editor of Economie Internationale and International Finance and authors of several books and numerous articles for scientific journals and newspapers
